Act II of the centenary celebrations for the Russian Ballet.
The curtain came down on the first act of the Russian Ballet centenary celebrations on 3rd January, with 25,000 spectators having enjoyed a huge number of events during December. A second series of performances starts on 1st April and continues for two weeks. There are several shows being staged in combination with the Printemps des Arts festival, including ballets, contemporary dance, and flamenco. The Merce Cunningham Dance Company is in town to pay tribute to the Cunningham's choreography, and his collaborations John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg.
In addition to the professional performances, around 90 young dancers from around the world will take part in public auditions. During the closing ceremony the Princess of Hanover presents scholarships from the Fondation Princesse Grace to 10 of these emerging talents, enabling them to join a company as trainees.
Also taking place is the Medicine and Dance conference organized by the Association Danse Medecine Recherche (ADMR).
