Open top bus tours

A grand idea for tourists.

You must have seen them, the red and white open-topped mini-buses driving around Monte Carlo with Monaco le grand tour written in large letters on the side. Seating 33, the buses offer an all day alternative to the Azur Express tourist trains that leave from the Oceanographic Museum. The service is jointly run by Monaco bus company CAM and Rapetto Transports Service, with a team of 8 conductors operating between 10:00 and 18:00, 7 days a week, all year round.

Buses depart from the bateau bus stop on quai Kennedy every 15 minutes in summer, 30 minutes in winter. On its circular tour, it motors down to the Sporting d'Ete, back up to the Casino, and taking in the Rock, Fontvieille, and Port Hercule. When there's a cruise ship in dock, the buses also make a detour to the jetty. Passengers can hop on and off all day at any of the 12 stops on the route (see below), which takes about an hour. There's also a recorded commentary about Monaco's history and districts, with Monegasque music playing in the background.

UPDATE 19 Apr 2013: Price is 18 euros for a 1 day pass, or 21 euros for 2 days. For current information, visit the organizer's website at: Monaco Le Grand Tour.
