A march and exhibition to raise awareness of Alzheimer's Disease

The Association Monegasque pour la Recherche sur la Maladie d'Alzheimer (AMPA) is organizing a solidarity march and photo exhibition to mark World Alzheimer's Day:

  • 12:20, solidarity march leaves Ministry of State
  • 14:00, official opening of photograph exhibition, Casino Gardens

This is the 3rd walk organized by AMPA, this year with the participation of Monaco's Olympic team. Several towns in the region are organizing marches at the same time.

Departing from the Rock, walkers make their way to the Place du Casino, where they attach flowers to a giant sea-horse. The flowers are made by Alzheimer's sufferers, and the sea-horse is AMPA's symbol, hippocampe in French, which also translates as hippocampus, the first area of the brain to be affected by Alzheimer's.

Participants are offered a snack, thanks to Pavillon Traiteur, and t-shirts in AMPA's colours from Nike Store Monaco.

Following the march, a photograph exhibition is to be opened in the Casino Gardens. From 21st to 28th September, the exhibition is entitled Empreintes De Vie (imprints of life), or Temoin De Leurs Souvenirs Toujours Presents (witness of their ever-present memories) and the photos have been taken by Alzheimer's sufferers.
