Summer school session 3

A morning lecture and discussion by Tina Waldeier Bizzarro, followed by a collaborative workshop in the afternoon led by Susan Kelly Vonmedicus. Part of the American Ireland Fund Summer School on the History of Irish Book Illumination of the Golden Age.

  • 11:00-12:00, comparison of the Gospel of Saint Willibrord, also known as the Echternach Gospels, with examples of Irish metalwork and Persian manuscripts
  • 13:30-16:30, the structure of knot-work, students make a Cross on true vellum using a 3-colour palette based on knot-work found in the Book of Durrow

The session is free of charge, however only 10 places are available, so reservation is necessary. No previous experience or artistic talent is necessary for the artistic workshops.
