Annual celebrations for Saint John the Baptist's Day

Celebrated over two nights on 23rd and 24th June, in Monaco Ville and Place des Moulins, with entertainment from traditional folk groups, music, dancing and food.

23 June, Monaco Ville

  • 20:30, religious service in the Palatine Church, by invitation
  • 20:45 at Place du Palais, bonfire and folk dancing

24 June, Place des Moulins

  • 20:50 at Place des Moulins, departure of procession heading to Saint Charles Church
  • 21:00 at Eglise Saint Charles, religious service, a young girl dressed in traditional Monegasque clothing places a bouquet of flowers at the altar, and the Archbishop of Monaco performs the blessing of the sheep, followed by departure of procession heading back to Place des Moulins
  • 22:00 at Place des Moulins, representative of the Maintenance Provencale des Feux de la Saint Jean transports the Flamme du Canigou in a lantern to light a bonfire of joy (batafoegu), performance of Monaco national anthem, followed by a traditional folk show
  • 22:30-midnight at Square Marcel Pagnol, socca and fougasse party for performers and organizers
