Ingram was born in Ireland, but in 1911 left for America, where he became involved in the film industry. He directed the 1920 movie The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, which launched the career of Rudolph Valentino. Further films included swashbucklers and romances, which starred his wife and leading lady, Alice Terry. In 1924 the couple moved to Nice, where they set up the Victorine Studio.
