The local Monaco bus company (Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco, CAM) is introducing an extension to its schedule that means there's a continuous service from 7am to 1am the following day.
Before 2009, the last bus in the evening was about 8.30pm, meaning that if you wanted a night out during the week, you had to walk, use a taxi, or drive yourself. An hourly night bus was added to the timetable in December 2007 allowing revellers to stay out late on Fridays and Saturdays without needing to take the car. It's proved to be so popular that the service has been extended. Now, an evening bus will run every 30 minutes from 9.20pm to 20 minutes past midnight, every day of the week, following the same route as the night bus and timed to connect with the local train service.
So, now there's no excuse for not trying one of the restaurants or bars near the beach or in Fontvieille. Take the bus. You don't need to keep count of your glasses of champagne, you don't need to worry about parking the car, you won't add to the pollution in Monaco and you support the local community services.
