Monte Carlo Violin Masters

International violinists competition in June.

There's a bit of a lull in the classical music calendar in Monaco now that summer is on its way. However music lovers have a treat in store from 16th to 19th June, when the Monte Carlo Violin Masters competition takes place.

The Violin Masters along with the Piano Masters, and the Voice Masters, is one of 3 music competitions held annually in Monaco. In 2009, the piano competition was won by Sergei Tarasov, and this year it's the turn of the virtuoso violinists. With the Rainier III Prize of 30,000 euros up for grabs, it's one of the biggest violin competitions in the world. During the first round, 12 candidates with an age limit of 40 years are chosen from different cities around the world. The second round takes place on 16th June at the Auditorium Rainier III. Four candidates are then chosen to play in the semi-final on 17th June, from which two violinists go through to the final gala concert. They perform in front of an international jury on Saturday 19th June in the Salle Garnier.
