Alternative rally expected to arrive 14th July
From 12th to 14th July, a convoy of wacky racers is making its way through 3 European countries, heading for the Principality. Inspired by the Paramount film, which coincidentally is one of Mrs maBoum's favourites, the modern Monte Carlo or Bust rally is a fun, 3 day expedition through France, Switzerland and Italy, with the finish line in Monte Carlo.
The idea is to buy a roadworthy and insured banger (old car) for less than 250 GB pounds (around 293 euros), in which to make the 3 day journey. Some teams are taking part to raise money for charity, some are celebrating stag or hen weekends, and some just for the enjoyment of the challenge. All are encouraged to decorate their vehicle and wear fancy dress according to each year's theme. Organizers insist that the rally adventure is not a race, and that teams will be solving daily challenges to win points, cash and other prizes.
Route
Vehicles depart from Saint Quentin on 12th July and make their way to Dijon. On the second day, the route takes participants to Turin, passing along Lake Geneva and over the Great Saint Bernard Pass. Teams head to Monte Carlo on the third and final day, where they'll no doubt be doing a lap of the Grand Prix circuit.
When all the cars have checked in at Monaco, they set off in a convoy to Nice for presentations, speeches, and a party.
Entry fees
Besides buying a banger, there's a rally entry fee:
- two man team 200 GB pounds
- additional team members 25 GB pounds each
- all female teams 150 GB pounds
Teams need to register before 11th July 2013.
