Black Legend night out

maBoum experiences two of Black Legend's faces.

Lounge bar, restaurant and night club. Black Legend's concept combines each of these, and at the weekend maBoum tried out two of them.

First, the lounge bar. We arrived around 22:00, settled into comfortable leather sofas, and ordered drinks from our friendly and efficient waiter. It's not the cheapest bar menu in Monaco, but we didn't expect it to be. If you're a group, it's possible to cause less damage to your social fund by ordering a bottle of spirits to share, as in other Monaco nightclubs.

Dusty Springfield, black music's white legend

Motown made up a small selection of the background music, which was mostly R&B and soul tracks by black artists. The volume was perfectly set so that chatting with friends was still possible without seeking throat medication the following morning. The level changed along with the mood after about an hour, as the house band took to the stage. All accomplished musicians individually, and they have the promise of becoming quite together as they continue to play most evenings.

When the band finished, the dry ice machine and flashing lights started, the volume cranked up to levels more commensurate with a night club and funky disco classics from the late 70s and early 80s had the 30-somethings strutting their stuff on the dance floor.

We had a great evening. Our Motown fan was disappointed with the lack of real Motown tracks, but the music was nonetheless good, and we left, surprisingly clear-headed after 3 cocktails... as Duffy cried for mercy.
