Christmas won't be Christmas .... (1)

As the children's rhyme says, rain, rain go away, come again another day! Preferably not at the weekend.

What's new?

What better way to escape the cold weather than by taking a trip to the Monte Carlo Travel Market, the luxury travel exhibition. Or you could busy yourself indoors with a hobby such as stamp and coin collecting, which is high on the agenda for enthusiasts this weekend with Monaco Numismatique. For some things tho' you'll just have to brave the bad weather, especially for a visit to the first of a series of live opera and ballet broadcasts at the Sporting Cinema.

Following our teaser last week, Meridien's Intempo restaurant launched its 29 euros express lunch formula on Monday. The hotel's chef patissier is also creating his own version of Princess Stephanie's favourite pastries to raise money for Fight Aids Monaco, marking World Aids Day on Saturday. For a liquid "before" or digestif, you might try the recently renovated Salle Blanche, which is featuring live music in the heart of the magical Monte Carlo Casino.

Finally, it's the annual Ecumenical Christmas Kermesse this weekend, with plenty of stalls selling used goods and home-made items. Donations are always gratefully received, especially English books, CDs and DVDs, pretty much anything in good condition that can be sold to raise money. In addition, there's a tombola with lots of prizes, and you can buy Christmas decorations and goodies beloved of British expats.

What's in the diary...

Thursday: After work meeting, then food & wine tasting.
Friday: Dancing lords, strumming guitars.
Saturday: Opera at the cinema, swing at the opera.
Sunday: Three great classical musicians.

Coming up next week, CDE networking, more than a mention for Mission Enfance, and Christmas commences at the port.

(1) This week's quote is the opening line of the book Little Women, written by Louisa May Alcott, born this day 1832. The line continues ".... without any presents."
