Ceci n'est pas une pipe (1)

Winter blew into Monaco this week, with gales and rain causing temporary disruption to No Finish LIne, and preventing the National Day parade at Palace Square.
What's new?
The cold weather makes us hungry for hearty food and cheering drinks. Red wine is plentiful this evening in the form of Beaujolais Nouveau, welcomed with tasting parties at Petit Dark Home and Cambuse. Food, drink and much more are to be found throughout the weekend at Monte Carlo Gastronomie, but will soon disappear from the menu of Louis XV, which closes after dinner on Saturday and won't reopen until 28th December.
In the news this week was an item of particular interest to us here at maBoum. Monaco and EDF are signing an agreement for an electric car sharing service similar to the Auto Bleue in Nice. Residents and tourists will be able to use a fleet of 50 Renault Twizy cars to get around the Principality next year, with prices still to be fixed.
Finally, take care as you wander along rue Princesse Caroline over the coming months. Improvement work started on the pedestrian street yesterday to resurface the paving, replace lamp posts, and overhaul the restaurant terraces. Trading shouldn't be affected, so you can still enjoy the cafes and bars that line the thoroughfare from the port to rue Grimaldi.
What's in the diary ....
Thursday: Paparazzi Parties Christmas sale.
Friday: Cocktails and shoes.
Saturday: Fencing.
Sunday: Wagner's Rheingold.
Coming up next week, Christmas lights, jazzy nights, and how to host the perfect party.
For lots more suggestions, visit maBoum's 7 day listing and enjoy your weekend.
(1) This week's quote is the phrase on a painting by Belgian surrealist artist Rene Magritte, born this day 1898. Entitled La Trahison des Images (the treachery of images), the work depicts a pipe, but is not itself a pipe.
