What's new?
Teams arrived yesterday for the Solar1 Monte Carlo Cup, the first major event to be held at the newly opened Yacht Club. Over the weekend, 27 university teams are racing in boats powered by sunlight. All the action should be visible from high points on shore, and the village on quai Louis II is open to anyone wanting to find out about the technology, as well as those who want to enjoy some music in the evenings.
On Saturday, the Grimaldi Forum launches its summer exhibition, a collection of art on loan from the Pinault Collection in Venice. ArtLovers is open to the public throughout July and August, with creative workshops for kids starting on Monday.
Looking ahead to September, MonacoUSA plans a special happy hour as part of the 70th anniversary commemoration of the liberation of Monaco. Later that month, Child CARE Monaco is inviting women to a Ladies' Vintage Car Rally, to raise money for its efforts to improve girls' education in India.
The Maison d'Ecosse has opened an outlet in its quest to introduce residents of Monaco to the luxuries of Scotland. Located in the soon to be demolished Sporting d'Hiver, the store sells bottles of whisky, offers expert advice, and welcomes aficionados for a wee dram at apero time.
Finally, as one store opens, another closes. This month marks a sad ending for English language book boutique BOMO, whose owner Siri says there aren't enough book buyers to make it sustainable. All stock is being marked down and must be sold before the shop closes on 31st July.
