Sally, pride of our alley (1)

Hope your start to 2014 has been smooth and unaffected by strikes and bad weather.
What's new?
Russians take centre stage this weekend with the Jeune Chambre's themed business happy hour at Blue Gin, and partying at Stars n Bars to welcome the Old New Year (see diary below). In addition, earlier in the week the Minister of State announced in his New Year's message that 2015 would be dedicated to Russia, with events throughout the year marking the country's historic ties with Monaco.
In other news, the Princess Grace Irish Library is closed to the public from Monday 13th January to Friday 7th February due to renovation work. If one of your New Year's resolutions is to exercise more, you might be interested in a Pilates exercise centre recently opened in Fontvieille at 28 quai Jean-Charles Rey. Phone 06 13 82 82 10 for more information.
Fans of the Columbus Hotel Brasserie will be disappointed to learn of the departure of chef Xavier Burelle, who's been heading up the kitchens since May 2011. On the other side of town, the Meridien's Chef Patissier Julien Beaulieu has created a mouthwatering chocolate and raspberry eclair, sales of which will be partly donated to Fight Aids Monaco.
Finally, on a sad note, Monaco resident Lois Bolton died after a long illness, a couple of days after seeing in the New Year. Those of you who knew her are invited to attend a memorial service tomorrow, 10th January, at 2pm at St Paul's Anglican Church.
