...he should become less fantastic (1)

Peace has returned to Monaco once again following the departure of the Yacht Show. Getting about town should be easier, so here are our suggestions for the what's on in the coming week.

Art & literature & exhibitions

The World Association of Childhood Friends (AMADE) marks its 60th anniversary this month with a sculpture exhibition in Monte Carlo Casino atrium.

This weekend Monaco Garden Club's bouquet competition takes place. You can browse the beautiful blooms on Sunday in the Riva Tunnel on Quai Antoine 1er.

On Monday head up to the Rock where you're invited to Princess Grace Irish Library for a talk on Sustainability in Irish Culture.

Cinema

No changes at the cinema, where you can still see The Creator, and A Haunting in Venice. Next week's schedule is expected to include The Expendables 4 (Expend4bles), fine for fans of the franchise, but not well rated by the critics.

Eating & drinking

Dine this evening at the Meridien Beach Plaza's Muse restaurant and enjoy the poppy bossa nova rhythms of Nouvelle Vague. Before you take your seat, check out the Unlock Art exhibition in the hotel lobby.

Also this evening (and tomorrow) it's Oktoberfest at Condamine Market, organized by the Mairie.

In foodie news, Sass Cafe is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary and is shortly to announce a foreign franchise. BeefBar will be opening in Barriere Group's St Barts hotel at the beginning of next month. Meanwhile it looks like MayaBay is taking over the world, with outlets planned in Riyadh, Doha, Mykonos, London, Courchevel and more over the next two years.

If you're looking forward to Monte Carlo Gastronomie Salon at the end of November and you fancy yourself as a culinary king or queen, why not apply for the Maestro Chef competition. Entry closes 30 October at midnight.

Music & dance & festivals

Senegalese singer Faada Freddy is on stage at Espace Leo Ferre on Saturday evening. Check out his YouTube video of Golden Cages, and of the Tables Will Turn EP title track, both filmed in Paris's Musee des Arts et Metiers.

On Sunday evening the OPMC performs a Tribute to Rachmaninov, which also includes music by Prokoviev. Then on Tuesday Masters of Peruvian Creole Music take to the stage at the Theatre des Varietes bringing us not only the sounds of Peru, but tango and flamenco too.

Networking & conferences

Discover SBM's plans this evening when chairman Stephane Valeri gives a talk at CREM, open to both members (free) and non-members (fee).

Then on Wednesday find out how to keep your brain healthy with Club Vivanova. James Goodwin will be promoting his book Supercharge Your Brain over lunch at the Fairmont.

Sport

Watch Sunday's Qatari Grand Prix at Columbus Hotel. The 55 euros price includes brunch.

Theatre & shows

Salle Garnier is staging four performances from Friday to Sunday of Stomp, a show combining dance and music, using everyday objects to produce rhythm.

Coming up soon...

Make a space in your diary for the Monte Carlo Jazz Festival from mid-November, as well as Note Bleue's tribute to Serge Gainsbourg on 10 and 11 November. And if you've not yet been to see Santo Sospir at Villa Sauber, you'd better hurry as the exhibition closes on 15 October.

And finally...

don't forget to check VisitMonaco for more suggestions.
