Steak at home (1)

Today is Sainte Devote's Eve, which means fireworks tonight and a day off tomorrow.

What's new?

If you hadn't already heard, two places have closed down recently. Following staff redundancies in late 2011, 3 star Ni Hotel is now boarded up. Further along the road, MC2 Mediterranean Cuisine has a notice in the window saying the restaurant is to be sold.

On a lighter note, the ex-Chef of Maya Bay has opened a new restaurant on avenue Marechal Foch in Beaulieu sur Mer. Although it's outside maBoum's catchment area, Olivier Streiff's La Raison Gourmande sounds intriguing, and it's just a bus or train ride away. Lunch menus for 18 or 24 euros, and dinner menus for 55 or 65 euros, based on whatever the chef has bought that day. Let us know what you think if you get there before us.

What's in the diary...

Thursday: Happy Australia Day. Events for Brits and Irish too.
Friday: Long-lived Rock.
Saturday: Wonder-ful music always popular.
Sunday: An Idyllic concert.

Coming up next week, historic rally cars in town and music for young people.

For lots more suggestions, visit maBoum's 7 day listing and enjoy your weekend.

(1) This week's quote is from American actor Paul Newman, born this day 1925. When asked about marital fidelity, he quipped "I have steak at home; why go out for hamburger?"
