France returns to Paris (1)
You'd better hurry if you want to visit the Summer Fair in the port, which is about to make way for September's big event, the Monaco Yacht Show.
What's new?
This week we welcome visitors from Spain and Portugal who are in town to support their teams FC Porto and FC Barcelona in Friday night's UEFA Super Cup final. UEFA bosses are also in town to draw the competitors for Champions' League, and to present an award to the best European player of 2011. There are 3 nominees, Barcelona's Xavi Hernandez and Lionel Messi, and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo. Unless you're an avid supporter, you're probably best avoiding Fontvieille on Friday afternoon. No doubt there'll be a strong presence from our Portuguese friends in Beausoleil.
What's in the diary...
Thursday: French fireworks, pictures of plants, sax on the beach.
Friday: Jones The Voice, Super football.
Saturday: jazz drums, tempting beach party.
Sunday: last organ concert.
Coming up next week, last of the free summer concerts on Square Gastaud: Charly Vaudano and Flamenco music.
Featured event
For the 2nd year running, 3 Monaco associations are joining forces to organize a debating competition. The British Association, the Jeune Chambre Economique, and the Association des Jeunes Monegasques are working together on the Big Debate, which is open to candidates whose mother tongue is not English. Teams of 2 can enter one of 2 categories free of charge: students in Monaco establishments, and people working in Monaco companies. There's training and support provided, and prizes to be won at the final on 19th October. For more information and links to entry forms, visit our event listing: the Big Debate.
Please note that when we feature places and events in the newsletter, we're writing our own personal opinions rather than placing adverts. If you have a favourite restaurant or bar that you'd like us to feature, let us know.
