There was speculation in Friday's Nice Matin as to whether Monaco would take part in the Eurovision Song Contest again, especially now that TV Monaco MC is affiliated to EU radio-telediffusion. We'd love to see that happen here at maBoum!

For now tho', here are the events that have piqued our interest this week.

Art & literature & exhibitions

Pablo Picasso and Antiquity opened last weekend in the Prince's Palace Apartments. If you haven't had time to visit yet, entry is free of charge on Sunday as part of Monaco's heritage day, which this year has the theme Patrimoine Vivant, or 'living heritage'.

Cinema

No change to the cinema listings this week, with daily screenings of A Haunting in Venice, and just three of The Equalizer 3, this evening, Sunday and Monday.

The Institut Audiovisuel's Tout l'art du cinema cinema launches tomorrow in the Grimaldi Forum with a classic; Woody Allen's The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985).

Community

Munegu Repair Cafe returns to Condamine market on Saturday for help with DIY repairs. It opens at 15:30. If you have any used computers or mobiles in working order and unlocked, take them along as the Mairie is collecting them for the Semeurs d'Espoir Monaco charity.

Following the recent earthquake in Morocco, Monaco's Caritas and Red Cross organizations are asking for donations to help the relief efforts.

Eating & drinking

Swiss resident Laurent Kostenbaum's restaurant Komo has closed permanently. It's been taken over by an Italian restaurateur from Turin, whilst the Komo brand will be developed as a catering service.

Music & dance & festivals

This evening Brazilian singer-songwriter and political activist Caetano Veloso is performing songs from his recent album Meu Coco in the Salle Garnier.

On Saturday there's an Apero Concert at Espace Leo Ferre. Doors open at 18:00 and the music starts at 19:00 with three bands, Rabata Roca, Dedicate, and Blah Blah. Free entry.

Sunday sees the opening of the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra season with an early evening concert at the Grimaldi Forum. Kazuki Yamada conducts music by Panufnik and Mahler.

Leading up to the Yacht Show next week, Monaco Smart and Sustainable Marina Rendezvous is gathering people together on Sunday and Monday who are interested in developing green solutions for the industry.

Club Vivanova is also organizing a pre-Yacht Show Ultimate Mixer on Wednesday.

Sport

Last weekend the basketball Championnat de France began and on Saturday evening Monaco Roca team got off to a great start with a win away to Limoges. The first home game is on 26 September versus Saint-Quentin. Check out Monaco Roca's fixtures online.

As for football, it'll be busy in Fontvieille on Friday evening as Monaco FC faces Nice at Stade Louis II.

Columbus Hotel is once again combining brunch with a live broadcast of the Japan Grand Prix on Sunday.

And finally...
