You cannot be serious! (1)

At last the chill wind has dropped and temperatures have risen slightly, so this week we're looking ahead to balmy spring days and warm summer evenings.

SBM has announced (pdf doc) it's opening three new establishment this year, two of them at Monte Carlo Beach, which is open 7 April to end of September. From 2 June, the hotel's Pointe de la Vigie will operate like a private club. It'll include a cocktail bar, and serve Mediterranean food from midday to 8pm. A few weeks later a new evening venue called Maona will open, with a party atmosphere, live music and DJs. The third place has already been widely publicised: Amazonica. It's scheduled to open in July on the roof of the newly renovated Cafe de Paris, serving Latin-American influenced dishes, decorated like an Amazonian jungle, and featuring live Latin-American music.

In other food and drink news, Starbucks in Condamine is closed for three weeks for renovation.

Nights will be a little darker for a while as the Government brings in a law requiring shops to turn off their lights between 11pm and 6am. There will of course be some temporary exemptions to the rule.

You must have seen news of the terrible earthquake that's affected Syria and Turkey. If you'd like to help with a donation, there are several options here in Monaco. You can write an old-school cheque made out to Caritas Monaco and post it, in a postbox, to Caritas Monaco, Paroisse Sainte-Devote, 1 Place Sainte Devote, 98000 Monaco. You can also make a bank transfer, details on the Caritas Monaco website (jpg doc). Monaco Red Cross has already provided 100,000 euros to aid the stricken region, and you could add to that if you prefer. Note also that the Rotary Club is sending donations to Rotary International in Istanbul, and Mission Enfance are taking donations to help Syrian children.

And finally...

Woo hoo! Monaco FC beat the mighty PSG last weekend, 3-1. Hurrah!
