We're determined to make the most of the open air cinema this year and have bought our 10 show tickets. This week we've been to see London Boulevard - some great acting, loved the music, but somewhat disappointing. What did you think?

What's new?

Maya Bay restaurant has been awarded the annual French Pomme d'Or food hygiene trophy, and several of Monaco's 4 star and 5 star hotels have been nominated for Prix Villegiatures 2011. There are changes afoot in Condamine, where Huit et Demi restaurant will soon have a new management team. The Italian group that's responsible for Vecchia Firenze and I Briganti are taking over, tho' there's no news yet as to how much or how little they'll change. Finally, make the most of the warm evenings down at Port Hercule. where the Summer Fair has started and the quayside eating and drinking establishments all have their summer terraces open.

What's in the diary...

Thursday: movie thriller, world famous super group.
Friday: 3D wizadry, Cuban dance show.
Saturday: dreamy midsummer dance, legendary rock/salsa fusion.
Sunday: organ music in church and in the Palace.

Coming up next week, Todes ballet, Herculis pole vaulting.

Featured place

Cantinho da Saudade is a home from home for the large Portuguese community that lives in Beausoleil. With a well shaded terrace, the restaurant offers hearty, peasant style cuisine, served on traditional terracotta dishes. As you'd expect, the menu features several cod (bacalhau) options, refreshing jugs of vinho verde, and home made Portuguese flan (similar to creme caramel). It's a welcome alternative to the usual Franco-Italian cuisine that's so prevalent in Monaco.
