What's new

There's a new proprietor at McCarthy's. Our source tells us that no changes are planned and that the bar, popular with expats, will remain "Irish". Across the road, Sensais plans to close during March for a refurbishment.

Last week the biennial Agecotel salon took place in Nice. There are a number of competitions held during the hospitality and food industry gathering to reward professionals, and two of them were awarded to employees of Monaco establishments. Sonia Bichet of Gaia took away the Coupe du Monde des Ecaillers, and Julien Quinson of Fairmont Monte Carlo's Saphir 24 collected first prize in Experience et Savoir-Faire du Maitre d'Hotel.

And finally, tomorrow is Valentine's Day, so if you've not yet reserved a table for your intimate tete-a-tete, you'd better get a move on. It's also the start of the school winter half term break. Enjoy!

What's in the diary ....

Thursday: Be Here Now lunch.
Friday: Party like a prince or princess.
Saturday: Fighting knights in armour.
