Lights, camera, action! Yes, Cannes Film Festival started yesterday, and if you didn't get tickets for Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, which opened the festivities, check our 7 day listing for screenings in Monaco.
What's new?
Two new places have been added to our "must visit" list this week. We mentioned Condamine's Pizza & Co in our November newsletter, and it's now receiving the finishing touches and should be open this weekend. Maison Mullot on avenue de la Costa is already selling sandwiches and snacks, as well as a warm plat du jour that you can eat sitting on one of the stools inside. Let us know what you think if you visit either of them before us.
Outdoor restaurant terraces are now open in rue Portier, one of which, Cosmopolitan has announced new menus for the summer. Each day there's a different main dish, combined with starter and glass of wine or coffee for 15, 18 or 21 euros. If you're tempted by Monday's moules marinieres and frites, you'll have to wait a week as the restaurant is closed for a private function on 16th May.
What's in the diary...
Thursday: breakfast with Spanish ambassador.
Friday: an evening with King Arthur.
Saturday: learn how to cook curry or sea bass.
Sunday: classic comedy and contemporary comedy.
Coming up next week, re-live a sea voyage, as Sea Lounge reopens.
Featured place
Gerhard's Cafe is a little out of the centre of Monaco over in Fontvieille, but it's worth making the detour. In the evening it's lively and friendly, a great place for a beer, wine, and now even a cocktail in the Austrian style interior. You can also put a bet on the horses as it's a PMU bar. If you're not based in the neighbourhood, use Monaco's night bus to get home, but don't forget it goes a different route through Fontvieille than during the day. Starting at 21:40, there's a bus every 30 mins from either the Princess Grace Rose Garden, or the Campanin stop opposite the fire station.
For lots more suggestions, visit maBoum's 7 day listing and enjoy your weekend.
