What's new

SBM has started making ice-cream. It's another of the changes introduced by Philippe Joannes since joining the company as Director of Culinary Events in 2018. The ices are being manufactured in the centralised workshops that also bake bread and pastries, and which supply SBM's various events and establishments. Joannes has been helped by Gerard Tourin, 2000 Meilleur Ouvrier de France Glacier, and 2003 Champion du Monde Glacier.

A minimum of sugar is used to create classics such as vanilla, chocolate and coffee, and extra ripe fruit boosts raspberry, Menton lemon, and Carros strawberry flavours. Milk is sourced from Piedmont, and there are plans to develop flavours such as virgin mojito, tarte tatin, and salted butter caramel. You can buy the treats from Cafe de Paris, Mada One (see 14 March 2019 newsletter), and Monte Carlo Bay.

New kid on the block, Santo Gelato (see 4 April 2019 newsletter) at Place d'Armes is now open daily, 9:00-23:00 and until midnight at weekends. A delivery service has just been set up too, operating in the afternoons, 15:00-22:00. There's a minimum order of 22 euros, plus 3 euros delivery fee.

Finally, don't forget the Atelier du Glacier, and Pierre Marcolini's pop-up ice-cream van, which serves my favourite chocolate covered raspberry sorbet lolly. Enjoy!
