If you love tennis, note that reservations are now open for Monte Carlo Rolex Masters 2014. Early birds get the best choice of tickets, 2 weeks before everyone else.

What's new?

There's a new sporting event taking place in Monaco this weekend, the first ever Monte Carlo Polo Tournament. Matches are being played on a specially constructed pitch at Stade Devens in Beausoleil, where public spectators can watch the action free of charge. Tomorrow morning there''s a parade of teams and their horses around the Place du Casino.

Music continues to accompany our warm summer evenings, with jazz at Larvotto's Note Bleue, and pop/rock at Stars n Bars, where District are playing next Wednesday and Thursday. Make a date in your diary for 14th of August, when Antibes 4-piece Blah Blah are making a second appearance on the Star Deck. The entertaining and energetic band had us dancing on the tables when they played earlier in July.

Partying hard this weekend is the Brasserie de Monaco, which celebrates its 5th anniversary, coinciding nicely with International Beer Day tomorrow. Earlier this week the venue called for bands that are able to play live sets on Fridays and Saturdays. The entertainment has already been booked for the next 4 days, when two new brews are on tap for your tasting pleasure.  For tasty food, initial reports have come to us about the Italian steak house Cotoletteria that we mentioned last week. Our intrepid gastronauts enjoyed good quality meat, cooked as requested, at a reasonable price, and served by friendly staff. What more could you want?

Finally, a mention for the new Italian bistro Valentin that's tucked away in Park Palace gallery. The cafe has 3 lunch formulas, all including a soft drink and coffee, with dishes that change daily: salad for 15 euros, pasta for 16 euros, and plat du jour for 18 euros. It's also open from 7am for breakfast, offering some very delicious looking pastries. If you get there before us, let us know what you think.
