The Fairmont's new executive chef, Didier Anies, has updated the "a la carte" menu of the hotel's Horizon rooftop restaurant. Dishes are infused with the spirit of the Mediterranean and include delights such as lobster with feta spring rolls, or grilled vegetables with crispy socca. My eye was more drawn to one of the classic desserts, the XXL tiramisu to share. Anies, who succeeded Philippe Joannes in September (see 20 Sep newsletter) has also devised a new lunch "formule," price 45 euros, including starter, main dish, dessert, water and coffee. Horizon is open daily for breakfast from 6:30, and from Monday to Saturday for lunch from 12:00 to 15:00. Phone +377 93 50 65 00 for reservations.

Next Tuesday Stade Louis II is the venue for the UEFA Champions League match between Monaco and Bruges. The home team is currently languishing second from the bottom of French Ligue 1, as well as being second from the bottom of their Group in the UEFA competition. Coach Thierry Henry, who joined the team in October on a 3-year contract has yet to turn the club's fortunes around. But it's early days yet.
