Scheduled taxi boat services 2010

Alternative routes along the coast.

Building on the success of his bateau (boat) bus service across Port Hercule, Pierre Brezzo has introduced a new form of marine transport this year. The Monaco taxi boat (bateau taxi) is helping people reach beaches around the Principality while avoiding the busy summer roads. Since the beginning of August, Monaco Riviera Navigation has been running a scheduled service from Monaco to Plage Mala (see timetable below), where you can catch some sunshine, take a swim, or eat at one of two beach restaurants, La Reserve de la Mala, or Eden Plage.

The semi-rigid, diesel powered boat holds a maximum of 12 passengers, and in addition to the scheduled service it can be hired just like any other taxi. Yachts anchored off the coast can order it to take seafarers into town, or a group could hire it for a trip as far as Nice. At 90 euros per hour (minimum 30 minutes), a full load of 12 would cost around 10.50 euros per person from the Port of Monaco to the Port of Nice. What a great way to travel!
