Satisfying start to season

Monaco FC wins away.

Monaco's soccer players made a promising start to the 2013-14 season on Saturday, when the team won its first match of the season 0-2 away at Bordeaux. Both goals were scored in the second half, first by Riviere, then by Falcao.

On Friday, club managers made an announcement that's likely to boost players' performance in the first home game next Sunday. Initially to be played behind closed doors, the match against Montpellier is now open to fans, who can buy tickets online or from the ticket office at Stade Louis II.

The single match ban on spectators was one of several penalties inflicted on Monaco FC by the French Football Federation (FFF) for incidents during the final game of the 2012-13 season. An appeal against the punishment has been made, arguing that the violence was not characteristic of the club nor its fans. Until a final decision is reached on 20th August, all disciplinary measures are temporarily suspended. If the FFF's decision is upheld, then it's likely that an alternative match will have to be played behind closed doors.
