Belle Epoque church to be renovated.
Members of Monaco's Government visited Sacre Coeur church in September 2012 and announced renovation work is to go ahead. Restoration of the building and frescoes was scheduled for the beginning of 2013 and will take about a year. The small church by the Stade des Moneghetti was built in the 1920s, and hosts an annual Kermesse de l'Amitie (friendship bazaar) in April.
UPDATE, 7 May 2013: Sacre Coeur Church is now closed to the public following the start of restoration work, which is expected to take until the beginning of 2014. The murals, lighting and Filippo Franzoni's frescoes are to be renovated at a cost of 1.3 million euros, and a new organ is to be installed.
