Good deeds and getting fit.
If you've been in Monaco for a year or more, you'll have heard about the annual No Finish Line run that raises money for disadvantaged children. Well now, the fund-raising benefits of running are being applied to the Monaco Half Marathon and 10k events.
At least 2 charities are hoping competitors will raise money in March. First, members of several international clubs based in Monaco are encouraging runners to ask for sponsorship from among work colleagues, friends and family. Funds raised will be given to the association Vaincre la Mucoviscidose to promote research into muscular dystrophy and help families of children who suffer from it. There'll be a special information stand for those taking part at the Stade Louis II Marathon Village. Visit the charity run website for more information.
If someone you know has been touched by cancer, then you may prefer to run for Livestrong instead, a foundation established by cyclist Lance Armstrong. If you're participating in the 10k race, you're asked to raise 250 euros and in return you'll get a photo, a goody bag, and access to the Challenge Lounge arranged by Monaco Star Events in the Marriott at Cap d'Ail.
So, no need to drop out just because this year's Marathon of the Rivieras was canceled. Get your running shoes out and so some good.
