Monaco's youth club reviews its formula.
It's just over a year since Ni Box opened its doors for family leisure activities in Monaco, and General Manager Richard Maria is reviewing what's on offer. Club facilities include skating, bowling, jorkyball, video games, a disco and a McDonald's, but some activities have proved less successful than others, in particular Ni Club disco and the skating rink.
Maria says that it's been difficult to get the night club up and running, and patience is needed in order to build reputation and loyalty. The space can hold up to 1200 people, but over the past year, attendance at big events has been around 850, whereas on a normal evening between 450 and 600 party-goers pass through the door. Consequently it can seem to be rather empty. There are lots of establishments competing for Monaco's late night revelers, not only the "real" discos such as Jimmy'z and Black Legend, but also bars such as Brasserie de Monaco, which transforms into a club after 11pm. Ni Club's strict age limit ensures that anyone under 18 is turned away.
The roof top, all weather skating rink has also failed to draw in the crowds, and additional activities are being considered to create a multi-purpose space. Two possibilities are mini golf and car racing.
On the positive side, bowling, jorkyball, kids workshops and video games are all proving to be very popular. On Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and during school holidays there are often more than 1000 visitors a day. Families, companies and associations can arrange to hold private events and parties in the complex too.
