Celebrated singers and lesser-known operas.
Monte Carlo Opera has announced concerts and productions for its coming 2013-2014 season.
The season officially opens with the 19th November Monegasque National Day gala performance, this year of Wagner's Rheingold. However several productions are scheduled before that date, the first of which is a staging of two one-act operas by Gian Carlo Menotti on 24th October.
In addition to the operas, there are concerts by mezzo-soprano Joyce Didonato, and countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic. More famous for their voices, Placido Domingo conducts the Menotti productions, and Nathalie Stutzmann conducts Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore. Juan Diego Florez appears in Donizetti's La Favorite, and tenor Ramon Vargas and baritone Ludovic Tezier take on roles in Verdi's Ernani.
Young audiences can see 3 of the operas (Rheingold, Rusalka and Ernani) for a total price of 40 to 75 euros. - by phone and box office from 10 September
There are also reduced prices available for groups of 10 or more, and for students at the box office 15 minutes before curtain-up.
