Kathy Bates at Cinema and Literature Forum

9th edition of forum celebrating movie adaptations.

On 12th and 13th March Monaco once again hosts the International Forum for Cinema and Literature at the Sporting d'Hiver. Created in 2001 by Claire Breuvart and Hans-Stephan Kreidel, the Forum gathers together actors, film and television producers, writers of books, comic strips and screenplays. Each year, several well-known personalities attend, such as Paulo Coelho, Christopher Lee, Daniel Auteuil and many more.

For 2010, an invitation has already been sent to Kathy Bates, who follows Sir Alan Parker (2008) and Laura Morante (2009) as special guest of honour. Throughout her career, Kathy Bates has played several roles in movies adapted from novels, notably receiving a 1990 Oscar for her performance in Misery, adapted from the Stephen King book. She'll receive a special award in Monaco during the Forum's closing ceremony.

However, the event isn't exclusively for the professionals to hob-nob. Members of the public can attend debates, book signings and film premieres, and for students there's a workshop with author Jean-Christophe Grange, who'll choose the winners of the "pitch" competition.

Besides the best student pitches and the award for Kathy Bates, other prizes are to be presented at the closing ceremony, such as for best television adaptation, or best adaptation of a comic strip. Director, screenwriter and actor Olivier Marchal is president of the jury for the best adaptation of a novel. His early career as a policeman and his experience writing television police series will come in useful for judging the police novels on this year's shortlist.

The full program is to be announced next Thursday, 18th February at 18:00 in FNAC Monaco, which is a partner of the event.
