French literature prizes

Writers rewarded by Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco.

Taking place on 28th September, the Fondation Prince Pierre awards ceremony honours two authors for their work. One will receive the Prince Pierre of Monaco Prize, which was created in 1951 to reward a famous writer with 15,000 euros for his or her whole body of work. Another receives the Discovery Scholarship of 12,000 euros, given each year to a young francophone writer for a first fiction book.

In order to involve the general public, the Fondation Prince Pierre organizes a reading marathon, starting in mid-June with the support of libraries around the region. The general public are encouraged to read the books of authors who are nominated for prizes. Afterwards they fill out a survey giving their opinions, and the Fondation arranges opportunities to meet the writers. It's a good reason for anglophones book lovers to learn French.
