Classical music on record

Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra's label releases its first CD

The Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo (OPMC) has released a first CD on its own label, OPMC Classics. The album is a triple CD containing music by Stravinsky, including Firebird, Petrouchka, and the Rite of Spring, to tie in with the centenary celebrations of the Russian Ballet.

OPMC's conductor Yakov Kreizberg has said that one of his priorities was to relaunch the orchestra's record production in order to promote the Principality. The orchestra's artistic advisor Chandler Cudlipp says that with its own label, it can record music according to the OPMC's own standards, choose when to release it and in what order. For distribution, the orchestra is using Codaex, one of the largest in the classical music sector.

As well as the Stravinsky album, the orchestra has already recorded other works, which are currently in the post-production stage. Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe, and Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun by Debussy are to be released in the new year, and will be followed by works by Russians Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorsky and Borodin in May. Kreizberg is also recording 2 symphonies, Shostakovich's 11th and Mahler's 5th.

The CD is available in specialist shops, including Fnac, on the OPMC website, or through amazon.fr.
