This year marks the 100th anniversary of the consecration of Monaco's Cathedral.
Inaugurated on 12th November 1903 and consecrated on 11th June 1911, Monaco's Cathedral celebrates its centenary year starting on 27th January, Sainte Devote's Day, and ending on 8th December. Several events are scheduled (see our listing below), and two religious masses have been commissioned, one from Philippe Maze, and a second organ mass from Denis Bedard celebrating Immaculate Conception on the closing date of the centenary. If you've got an eye for ceremonial clothing design, there's a competition to design a chasuble, for which you get an entry form on the Cathedral website. The closing date for entries is 30th January.
- Massenet's Marie-Magdeleine oratorio
- Fastes des Cathedrales under Louis XIV
Several days are being organized for the public to find out more about the Catholic Church, and a day will be dedicated to Haiti. All money raised during the Centenary concerts is to be used for the construction of the Port au Prince Cathedral. Finally, the Editions du Rocher is to publish a book entitled "The Cathedral of Monaco".
