Give blood!
If you've traveled by bus recently you may have noticed the information screens contain more than just bus times. Throughout February places and times of mobile blood donor vans are being promoted.
The location of the white mobile units (see our listing below) is being organized by the Amicale des Donneurs de Sang, an association created in 1952 with the primary aim of increasing the number of donors within Monaco. As well as managing the mobile units, the association gives presentations to schools, attends exhibitions and events, and organizes "Blood Donor Day" every two years.
With around 1600 members, the Amicale des Donneurs de Sang also provides opportunities for members to socialize at gala evenings and days and weekends away. But you don't need to be a member to give blood. The general requirements are that you should be:
- aged 18 to 70
- weigh more than 50kg and be in good health
- aged under 60 if it's your first time
You'll also have to complete a questionnaire giving some medical information about yourself (available on the Monaco Red Cross website).
If you've donated blood before, you should leave at least 2 months before your next session, and during a 1 year period you should give it no more than:
- 4 times for women
- 6 times for men
- 3 times for those aged 60+
To find out more contact the Amicale des Donneurs de Sang, based in the Monaco Red Cross offices and open every Monday afternoon from 16:00 to 19:00. You can phone them on +377 93 30 03 20 or email them at donneursdesangmonaco[at]libello.com.
